Ontario’s Crown Land Use Atlas

Policy Report Search Tool Tutorial

This tutorial will explain how to search for policy reports in Ontario’s Crown Land Use Policy Atlas (the Atlas). When the Policy Search button is selected the search window will be opened. The search window is divided into 2 parts: 1) Search for Policy Reports and 2) Displaying Results.

1) Search for Policy Reports

Policy reports can be searched by individual topics or any combination of the following:

Area ID

Enter the exact or partial ID of the area you are interested in.

Example: Entering "P" will return all provincial parks (including recommended provincial parks) and other designations including overlays that contain the letter “P”. Entering “G2” will return all policy reports containing “G2” including overlay designations.

The following is a list of letters that are used to begin the IDs for primary land use areas:

P - Provincial Park
E - Enhanced Management Area
G - General Use Area
C - Conservation Reserve
F - Forest Reserve
W - Wilderness Area
D - Dedicated Protected Area

Area Name

Enter the exact or partial name of the area you are interested in.

Example: Entering "Rush" will return all the records with names containing "Rush" such as "Rushing River"and “South Rushbrook Old Pine”.

Designation

By selecting a designation from the drop down menu, a list of all areas with this designation will be listed. To narrow your search, enter known information in any or all of the other available search boxes.

Category

Only provincial parks and enhanced management areas (EMAs) are subdivided into categories. Selecting one of the available categories of provincial park or EMA will narrow your search.

Administrative Area

In this drop down menu, you can select land use areas in MNR administrative regions, districts or parks zones. To narrow your search, select a specific Administrative Area provided under the Select heading. Narrow your search by entering known information in any or all of the other available search boxes.

Select

Options under this heading are only available when an Administrative Area has been selected. In this drop down menu, MNR offices related to the selected Administrative Area will be listed.

2) Displaying Results

Once you have entered the information you are interested in searching, select the Search button below the table. You can choose to view 10, 25 or 50 options at one time. Results will be displayed to the right of the Search table. You will be able to view policy reports by selecting links in the Area Name column. You will also be able to view maps centred on an Area Name by selecting links in the Area Boundary column.

To begin a new search, select the Clear Search button.
